O Campeonato Piauiense de 2022 ganha nova fórmula e terá início no dia 15 de janeiro. Os clubes já aprovaram o regulamento do estadual do próximo ano e a final está marcada para o dia 3 de abril com jogos ao vivo.
A nova fórmula de disputa para a competição em 2022 foi aprovada por representantes dos oito clubes do Campeonato Piauiense. O campeonato voltará a ter semifinais, com duelos de ida e volta. A primeira rodada será no fim de semana dos dias 15 e 16 de janeiro, totalizando 18 datas.
O modelo de disputa foi acertado pelos times, durante uma reunião na sede da Federação de Futebol do Piauí (FFP). Estavam presentes na ocasião os dirigentes do Altos, Fluminense-PI, 4 de Julho, Flamengo-PI, River-PI, Oeirense e Corisabbá. Já o Parnahyba não teve representantes no arbitral.
A FFP usou como argumento para a volta das semifinais no Piauiense uma possibilidade que foi apresentada pela CBF na apresentação do calendário 2022. A CBF que é a entidade máxima do futebol brasileiro recomendou que os campeonatos estaduais tivessem 16 datas, com início no dia 16 de janeiro. Contudo, deixou a opção às federações para o começo no dia 15 de janeiro.
Com isso, o Campeonato Piauiense acabou ganhando mais duas datas, pois optou por começar mais cedo. Porém, é importante lembrar que o campeonato não poderá ultrapassar o primeiro fim de semana de abril, que é quando começam as Séries C e D do Brasileirão, que contará com alguns times do Piauí, tais como: Altos, na terceira divisão; Fluminense-PI e 4 de Julho, na quarta divisão.
O Campeonato de 2020 e 2021
Em 2020, o estadual precisou adequado de forma a se encaixar no calendário de 16 datas da CBF. Entretanto, para não ter final única, os clubes preferiram não realizar as semifinais e, depois de 14 rodadas da fase de classificação, os mais bem classificados fizeram a decisão em ida e volta.
O modelo ficou valendo em 2020 (título do 4 de Julho) e 2021 (taça do Altos). Contudo, agora o campeonato do Piauí volta a ter as semifinais, no modelo usado em 2018 e 2019.
Finalizando as 14 rodadas, em turno e returno, os quatro melhores classificados passam para as semifinais, sendo que o 1º colocado pega o 4º e o 2º enfrenta o 3º.
O grande campeão piauiense de 2022 garantirá vaga na Copa do Brasil 2023, na Copa do Nordeste 2023 e para a Série D 2023. Já o vice-campeão piauiense de 2022 terá direito a segunda vaga para participação na Copa do Brasil 2023 e a segunda vaga para a Série D 2023.
