A equipe de fiscalização da Secretaria de Estado de Meio Ambiente e Desenvolvimento Sustentável (Semad) realizou, entre os dias 1 e 5/4, fiscalização contra o desmatamento ilegal no Norte de Minas. A Operação Grande Sertão II – 2024, realizada com o apoio da Polícia Militar de Meio Ambiente, ocorreu no município de Januária, sendo fiscalizados e autuados 54 hectares no município. Foram apreendidos lenha e carvão, e aplicados R$ 614,7 mil em multas.
Os alvos da operação foram levantados por meio da detecção de desmates na plataforma de Sistema de Monitoramento Contínuo das Áreas de Exploração Florestal, da Planet Brasil, sendo considerado o uso de ferramentas de geotecnologia avançada para detecção dos desmates um grande avanço. Dos sete alvos fiscalizados, cinco estavam em áreas estaduais de proteção ambiental, como APA Rio Pandeiro, APA Cochá Gibão e a zona de amortecimento do Parque Estadual Serra das Araras.
A equipe da Semad contou com o uso de tablets e drones para fiscalizar os desmatamentos recentes ou que estavam em processo. De acordo com coordenador de Fiscalização Ambiental e Gestão de Denúncia da Regional Norte de Minas, Cassio Maggi Selva Maciel, a operação representa o trabalho contínuo do Governo de Minas em combater o desmatamento ilegal no estado. “A região foi escolhida por possuir grandes extensões e registrar altos índices de desmatamento”, comenta.
Apreensão
A operação resultou em apreensões e multas. Foram apreendidos:
- 1.017 metros cúbicos de lenha
- 34 metros cúbicos de carvão
- R$ 614.770,91 reais aplicados em multas

O Governo de Minas, por meio da Semad, disponibiliza diversos canais de denúncias ambientais e conta com o apoio da sociedade para monitorar e denunciar práticas evidentes ou suspeitas de irregularidades ambientais.
