A Educação Especial em Santa Catarina é referência nacional pelo atendimento humanizado e inovador.

Um exemplo disso é o Centro de Referência em Tecnologia Assistiva (CERTA), da Fundação Catarinense de Educação Especial, também chamado de “Espaço Maker”, onde são desenvolvidas formas de reabilitação para a educação do estudante que necessita de assistência. No espaço, são oferecidas diversas atividades em diferentes ambientes.

Em 2023, foram repassados mais de R$ 244 milhões para as 244 instituições conveniadas. Os repasses incluem os valores do Modelo de Repasse Direto (MRD), para contratação direta de professores e demais profissionais necessários, havendo a manutenção das atividades técnico-pedagógicas.

Além dos repasses, a FCEE ainda mantém o programa de cedência de professores, que em 2023 chegou a cerca de 2.400 professores, entre efetivos e temporários, cedidos para atuação nas instituições.
