Agência Minas Gerais | Investimento inédito na Biblioteca Pública Estadual de Minas Gerais garante expansão e mais acessibilidade no setor Braille

Criado em 1965, o setor Braille da Biblioteca Pública Estadual de Minas Gerais é uma referência de acessibilidade no Brasil e no mundo. E a divisão está ainda melhor: após investimento inédito de cerca de R$ 400 mil, recebidos ainda em 2023, o espaço agora conta com 120 novos livros em Braille, além de novos equipamentos de tecnologia assistiva. Os recursos foram oriundos da Associação de Amigos da Biblioteca, do Instituto Periférico, via projetos de Lei de Incentivo à Cultura e emenda parlamentar. 

As novidades incluem uma impressora Braille, usada para produzir títulos acessíveis na própria biblioteca; uma linha Braille, dispositivo que converte o texto em caracteres Braille, permitindo que o usuário leia e interaja com conteúdos digitais; cinco óculos OrCam, que fazem a leitura de textos em tinta, transformando-os em áudio em tempo real; e uma impressora 3D, que permitirá reproduzir alguns monumentos históricos de Minas Gerais, como o Palácio da Liberdade, a Igreja da Pampulha e a própria Biblioteca, para que os deficientes visuais consigam ter uma dimensão da arquitetura desses locais.

Para o Diretor do Livro, Leitura, Literatura e Bibliotecas de Minas Gerais, Lucas Amorim, o setor Braille tem função primordial dentro da Biblioteca por oferecer a inclusão e acessibilidade. “Nosso acervo é totalmente especializado para as pessoas com deficiência visual e com baixa visão e, além dos livros em Braille, também temos as tecnologias assistivas, como lupas de aumento, audiolivros, filmes com audiodescrição, estúdio de gravação, e uma minigráfica para produção de materiais acessíveis. Um destaque é o serviço de voluntariado, no qual as pessoas que enxergam se disponibilizam a ler para as pessoas com deficiência ou gravar os audiolivros em nosso estúdio. Esta gama de serviços é bem ampla para incluir as pessoas cegas e com baixa visão nesse universo do livro e da leitura, e as novas aquisições promoverão maior independência no acesso à informação e na comunicação”, pontua.

“É a primeira vez que foi possível selecionarmos os títulos em Braille. Desde a sua criação, o setor Braille sempre recebeu livros por doação de empresas que produzem esse tipo de material. Mas, dessa vez, fizemos uma lista com títulos pelos quais os usuários do Braille já tinham manifestado interesse. Também realizamos uma pesquisa de mercado, com livros premiados, best-sellers. Foi algo inusitado”, entusiasma-se a Gerente do Núcleo de Extensão e Ação Regionalizada da Biblioteca Pública Estadual de Minas Gerais, Gildete Veloso.

Entre as aquisições estão obras como “Os corações perdidos”, de Celeste Ng, “A garota do Lago”, de Charlie Donlea, e “Todas as cores do céu”, da escritora Amita Trasi. “Os títulos que a gente recebeu têm chamado bastante atenção, e os usuários têm procurado muito por eles”, complementa o Coordenador do setor Braille, Glicélio Ramos Silva, ele próprio cego e também usuário do departamento.

As aquisições feitas pela Biblioteca Estadual, equipamento do Governo de Minas Gerais gerido pela Secretaria de Estado de Cultura e Turismo (Secult-MG), já estão disponíveis para os usuários do setor Braille. Quem ficou feliz com os novos equipamentos foi a funcionária pública Elaine de Jesus, frequentadora do espaço há 12 anos. “Eu me sinto acolhida aqui na biblioteca. Uso bastante os serviços de empréstimo de livros, e o acervo daqui é muito rico”, conta.

Graduanda em Serviço Social, Elaine frequenta a biblioteca semanalmente. “Geralmente, vou às quartas e sextas. Uso muito também o serviço dos voluntários, que leem livros e documentos que nós levamos. Apesar de ter, na minha faculdade, uma certa acessibilidade no sistema de informática, eu prefiro usar o sistema do voluntário, porque aqui tem muito voluntário com uma bagagem cultural muito grande. Eles leem uma coisa para você e geralmente contam uma história, essa história te ajuda a entender a matéria. Tem a pitadinha de gentileza deles, então esse serviço é muito importante”, complementa Elaine de Jesus. 

Allan Pereira da Silva, que estuda música e ministra aulas de teologia na igreja, é outro usuário assíduo do setor. “Descobri o setor Braille quando estava no final do ensino médio, por volta de 2013. Vinha pegar emprestado livros literários que a escola pedia e usar o serviço dos voluntários para leitura dos livros e apostilas à tinta. Essa biblioteca tem me ajudado muito”, diz Allan Pereira, que atualmente vai ao equipamento, que integra o Circuito Liberdade, duas vezes na semana, em média. 

“Este espaço é importante para que as pessoas que estão estudando possam ter um acesso à cultura de forma mais inclusiva. Aqui, nós temos acesso aos livros didáticos, a músicas, livros da lei, de literatura brasileira e estrangeira, textos sobre várias religiões”, elenca Allan. “Eu costumo pegar a Bíblia Sagrada para o estudo de teologia e livros que falam de acessibilidade, que abordam as leis voltadas para a pessoa com deficiência”, conta.  

Gráfica Braille própria 

A impressora recém-comprada se junta a outras duas para a montagem de uma minigráfica Braille, o que dá à Biblioteca Estadual capacidade de produção do próprio acervo. Isso é particularmente importante para o setor, dado às características da escrita em Braille. 

“O livro em Braille é feito em relevo. Isso significa que, quanto mais você lê, mais ele apaga. Então é preciso um investimento contínuo na aquisição desse tipo de material bibliográfico, porque a vida útil de um livro em Braille é curta, de no máximo dez anos. Temos que investir constantemente para manter esse acervo. Nosso maior sonho é ampliar a produção dos livros no setor para doar exemplares em Braille para as bibliotecas públicas do interior do estado”, conta o diretor da Biblioteca Pública Estadual, Lucas Amorim. 

Além da capacidade de reposição dos títulos que vão se perdendo durante o uso, a minigráfica é capaz de produzir livros inéditos. Isso porque os livros em Braille para uso em bibliotecas por pessoas com deficiência é livre de direito autoral, o que significa que o espaço poderá imprimir os livros que quiser, a depender apenas do tempo de confecção. “Um livro de 200 páginas demora uns dois meses para ser impresso. Isso sem contar o processo de escaneamento do livro digital e a revisão”, explica Glicélio Ramos.

Acervo vasto e para além dos livros

Ao longo de seus quase 60 anos, o setor Braille reuniu um acervo de aproximadamente 2.100 títulos, consagrando-se como uma das principais bibliotecas com acessibilidade para as pessoas com deficiência visual do país. Além dos livros impressos em Braille, lá são encontrados cerca de 2 mil audiolivros e 100 títulos de filmes com audiodescrição. 

“A grande maioria dos livros pode ser emprestada, cerca de 95% do acervo. Tem alguns que são referência, como dicionários, que só podem ser consultados aqui na Biblioteca, mas são casos raros. No caso dos audiolivros e filmes, todos estão disponíveis para empréstimo”, explica Glicélio Ramos Silva, quem trabalha na Biblioteca há 18 anos e desde 2015 coordena o Braille. 

O empréstimo no setor Braille funciona nos mesmos moldes das outras áreas da Biblioteca, exceto pelo fato de que o serviço é restrito para pessoas com deficiência visual. “A pessoa precisa ser cega ou com baixa visão, e fazer o cadastro conosco, que requer documento de identidade e comprovante de endereço. Também pedimos uma contribuição de R$ 3 para a impressão do cartão da biblioteca. Esse cartão é válido por dois anos, depois o usuário renova. E, para as pessoas com baixa visão, pedimos também um atestado oftalmológico comprovando a condição, mas não precisa ser recente”, diz Glicélio. 

O setor funciona de segunda a sexta-feira, das 8h às 17h, e não tem intervalo para almoço. “O tempo de empréstimo é igual para todo mundo, para quem enxerga e para os cegos. São 14 dias, podendo renovar por mais 14 dias. Para facilitar a questão da mobilidade, excepcionalmente para os deficientes visuais permitimos a renovação pelo WhatsApp do setor Braille”, complementa o coordenador. 

O canal do WhatsApp também serve para divulgação da ‘Dica de Leitura’. Toda quarta-feira, os usuários cadastrados recebem, via lista de transmissão, uma indicação de livro do acervo. Segundo Glicélio Ramos, a procura é grande. “Acaba funcionando para que o público fique ainda mais próximo do setor Braille.” 

 A Biblioteca Pública Estadual de Minas Gerais é a biblioteca modelo do nosso estado e, dentro desse grande centro cultural, temos várias bibliotecas setorizadas. A gente tem uma biblioteca infantojuvenil, uma biblioteca de empréstimo, uma biblioteca de estudos, uma biblioteca de obras raras e a biblioteca Braille. Este setor é o mais importante, por oferecer a inclusão e acessibilidade para as pessoas com deficiência visual e com baixa visão, garantindo que todos tenham acesso igualitário à informação, ao conhecimento e à cultura”, avalia Lucas Amorim.

Os investimentos recentes não beneficiarão apenas a Biblioteca Pública Estadual de Minas Gerais. Dois dos óculos OrCam adquiridos pelo equipamento foram doados para o Museu Casa de Alphonsus de Guimaraens, em Mariana, e para o Museu Casa Guimarães Rosa, em Cordisburgo. Este último, que completa 50 anos dia 30 de março, acaba de receber o presente de aniversário, que amplia sua acessibilidade e democratiza ainda mais o acesso para deficientes visuais. 

“Somando-se à missão de emprestar livros, uma biblioteca é um local de encontro e de formação de comunidade, de relações afetivas. Enquanto biblioteca modelo, esperamos inspirar os municípios para construirmos uma sociedade mais justa, igualitária e informada, para que o acesso ao conhecimento e à cultura seja um direito universalmente garantido para todas as pessoas, sem distinção”, conclui Lucas Amorim.
